Grants
CARLISLE HOMES COMMUNITY GRANT 2017
Furniture Frenzy – $12,219.71
19 years ago, the daughter of our current kindergarten teacher sat at the same table our
kids were sitting at in 2017 when we applied for the Carlisle Homes Community Grant. Winning the grant allowed us to purchase brand new, functional and sustainable furniture from a local manufacturer.
Chelsea Kindergarten believes having equipment that matches and compliments each other provides an environment that tells children their learning area is professional, cohesive and valued.
CITY OF KINGSTON COMMUNITY GRANTS 2016-17
Learning Assessments Upgrade Project (iOS Software) – $2530
We used this grant to purchase the Evidence for Learning iOS App (Observation and Assessment Software) for use by the Chelsea Kindergarten educators.
The App allows the educators to capture learning moments and link photos to the Victorian Early
Years Learning and Development Framework in a comprehensive and time efficient way, decreasing the amount of time needed to plan, prepare and administer lessons, allowing for greater time interacting with the children.
CITY OF KINGSTON COMMUNITY GRANTS 2017-18
Chelsea Calm Kids (Yoga program) – $2000
Chelsea Kindergarten Teachers share elements of yoga, meditation and relaxation with the children throughout their weekly routine as part of the Chelsea Calm Kids program. The grant has allowed us to purchase yoga mats, cd’s, books, musical instruments, beanbags and cushions.
Through this program we aim to plant the seeds that will direct the children towards life-long skills of:
* Self-regulation (a critical component of school readiness)
* Movement and exercise (to combat obesity and a sedentary lifestyle)
* Awareness/mindfulness (creating a sense of self, increase resistance to peer pressure)
* Resilience (overcome difficulties)
* Belonging (a stronger, connected community)
* Happiness 🙂
We envisage that by imparting techniques for good mental health into our young learners early on, it will have a flow-on effect that will produce happy kids, healthy teenagers and capable adults. This is turn will ensure positive long-term contribution to our community and decrease the burden on our health system.
IKEA LIVING LOCAL COMMUNITY GRANTS 2018
Community Room Makeover – $3000
We came second in the IKEA Local Community Grants and we couldn’t have been happier! The teachers and committee members went on a shopping spree and were able to convert our empty meeting room into an inviting space to accommodate families, children, professionals and committee members.
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES 2018
Community Shade Sail grants Round 3 – $13,000
Through this funding Chelsea Kindergarten have been able to engage a company to construct a large shade sail to cover the turf area in the playground. We want to ensure children can access all areas of outside environment during the summer months, while being sunsafe. The Kindergarten committee and parents are currently fundraising for the remaining $3500, and construction is due to be completed in January 2019.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION INCLUSIVE KINDERGARTENS FACILITIES PROGRAM – EQUIPMENT ROUND 2 2018
Inclusive Play Project – $4588.20
The teachers at Chelsea Kindergarten meet the needs of all children through the Early Years Framework curriculum but are always looking for ways that they can present
learning in an inclusive and accessible way.
Chelsea Kindergarten aims to provide a continued supportive environment that meets the physical, emotional and sensory needs of children of all abilities, which reflect the principles of universal design.
This grant will allow the kindergarten to provide sensory opportunities to suit the visual, auditory, tactile, vestibular and proprioceptive needs of all children in the service.
